Transmission



  • spread through aerosols created by coughing or sneezing
  • infectious dose is very low where the inhalation of a single bacterium can cause a new infection
  • People with prolonged or frequent contact are at high risk of being infected with an estimated 22% infection rate.
  • Those who are at risk of contracting TB:
  1. People who inject drugs using unsanitary needles.
  2. People in areas where TB is common
  3. Immunocompromised patients
  4. Residents and employees of high-risk congregate settings
  • Transmission can only occur from people with active Tuberculosis
