Treatment

• Uses antibiotics (rifampicin and isoniazid) to kill the bacteria
• Longer periods of antibiotics treatment of around 6 to 12 months
• Latent YB treatment usually uses single antibiotic
• Drug resistant tuberculosis requires longer treatment and requires more expensive drugs
• Multi-drug resistand TB is resistant towards rifampicin and isoniazid (first line drugs)
• Extensively drug resistant TB is resistant to three or more of the six classes of second-line drugs
• Increase the daily protein intake
